Saving your Reel with Adobe Premiere Pro

A.  Select the part of your movie to export (optional)
  1. Set your IN and OUT points around the section of the movie you would like to export by using the I key for the IN point and the O key for the OUT point.  These should be located at the top of the timeline.
  2. Drag the ends of the Work Area Bar tab to match the IN and OUT points.  This should also be located at the top of the timeline.

B.  Begin your movie export

  1. From the File menu, choose Export Timeline - Adobe MPEG Encoder...
  2. Press the Settings button.  The main tab should be set to General.
  3. Set the File Type to QuickTime.
  4. Set the Range to Work Area to export the selected area of the timeline.  If you wish to export the entire timeline, choose Entire Project.
  5. Make sure that the Export Video and Export Audio boxes are checked.

C.  Video Settings

  1. Change the main tab from General to Video.
  2. Under Compressor, select either MPEG-4 Video or Sorenson 3.  (These codecs provide the highest quality video designed for web storage.)
  3. Change the Frame Size to 320 h (horizontal) by 240 v (vertical).  (This can be adjusted higher for better quality, but will result in a larger filesize.  Make sure that whatever you choose has a 4:3 ratio.)
  4. Change the Frame Rate to 15 fps (frames per second).
  5. Change the Pixel Aspect Ratio to Square Pixels.
  6. Under Data Rate, check Limit data rate to and change the value to 40 K/sec.  (This can be adjusted higher for better quality, but will result in a much larger filesize.)
  7. Change the Quality setting to 25%.  (This can be adjusted higher for better quality, but will result in a much larger filesize.)

D.  Audio Settings

  1. Change the main tab from Video to Audio.
  2. Under Compressor, select either MPEG-4 Audio or QDesign Music 2.  (These codecs provide the highest quality audio designed for web storage.)
  3. If available - Under Advanced Settings, change the Bit Rate to 32 Kbits/s (Kilobits per second).
  4. Change Sample Rate to 22050 Hz (22,050 hertz or 22.050 Kilohertz).
  5. Change Sample Format and Channels to 16-bit, Mono.

E.  Keyframe Settings

  1. Change the main tab from Audio to Keyframe and Rendering.
  2. Under Keyframe Options, check Keyframe every and change the value to 300 frames.

F.  Finish your movie export

  1. Press the OK button to store your settings.
  2. In the File name box, type in a name for your movie file.  Make sure that your movie name ends with a .mov extension (i.e. Lastname.mov).
  3. Now you should save the movie file to somewhere easy to remember, like your desktop.
